Museum and Library Services Act of 2018

A major piece of legislation impacting libraries is currently stalled in the House of Representatives. The Museum and Library Services Act (S. 3530) would reauthorize the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) through 2025. The bill also includes funding for preserving and digitizing information and increases spending for at-risk libraries (including tribal libraries). With bipartisan support, the bill passed the Senate. It was scheduled to be brought to the House floor this week and considered under suspension of the rules, a typical way to move noncontroversial bills.

The American Library Association (ALA) is encouraging librarians and advocates to reach out to House leaders to urge them to bring the Museum and Library Services Act to the floor. See this post from the ALA government relations office for more information.
