The S.J. Quinney Law Library at the University of Utah is pleased to announce the recent launch of the Jefferson B. Fordham Digital Collection. Fordham was a vocal supporter of individual rights and racial equality, served as dean of the University of Pennsylvania’s law school from 1952 until 1970, and was a professor of law at the University of Utah for over 19 years. He was a beloved member of the Quinney Law School community and a devoted husband to Rita Ennella Fordham, and father to Robert N. and William C. Fordham. The collection was created by Valeri Craigle (web designer/project manager) and Matthew Pierce (metadata cataloger and scanning technician).

Anyone who is responsible for preserving sound recordings will be interested in the ARSC Guide to Audio Preservation.

Available free as a PDF download from the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR), this guide is co-published by the Association for Recorded Sound Collections, CLIR, and the Library of Congress. The guide is a practical introduction to caring for and preserving audio collections.

We’ve all thought about preservation of print materials and web archiving of born-digital material.  How about preservation of materials born on different (and obsolete) digital formats?  The Harvard Gazette has an interesting article about digital forensics which you can read here.
