LIPA is excited to announce that Michelle Trumbo will be joining the organization as its new Executive Director on July 1, 2018.  She will overlap with current Executive Director Margie Maes until the end of July.  Michelle was most recently Head of Reference and Instructional Services at the Law Library at Antonin Scalia Law School, George Mason University.  She received her MLIS from the University of Washington, her JD from Washington & Lee School of Law, and a BA in English Language and Literature from the University of Maryland.

Michelle has had a long-standing interest in preservation.  “I’m thrilled to become Executive Director of LIPA and look forward to building upon the incredible success of Margie Maes and the Board of Directors over the past decade,” Michelle said.  “As institutional, societal, and financial pressures continue to endanger our collections, the need for sustainable and stable preservation remains critical. LIPA is instrumental in providing the advocacy, support, and leadership necessary to achieve this goal. I can’t wait to dive in and continue the organization’s vital mission of preserving legal information for the future.”

Special thanks to the Search Committee – Camille Broussard, Stephanie Davidson (Chair), Christine Iaconeta, and Susan Nevelow Mart.  Michelle will be a fantastic addition to LIPA.

Please come meet Michelle and say goodbye to Margie at the LIPA Membership Meeting at AALL, which will be held on Sunday, July 15 from 12:45-2:15pm in Hilton Key Ballroom 12.  They will also be at the LIPA booth in the Exhibit Hall.

The LIPA Board is thrilled to share the news: the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) announced today that Margie Maes will be a 2018 recipient of the Association’s highest honor, the Marian Gould Gallagher Distinguished Service Award.  Established in 1984 to acknowledge sustained service to law librarianship, exemplary Association support, and outstanding contributions to professional literature, the Gallagher Award is presented to individuals who have completed, or are nearing completion of, an active professional career.

The Gallagher Award winners will be recognized at the upcoming 111th AALL Annual Meeting & Conference, to be held in Baltimore from July 14-17, 2018.

Congratulations Margie!  We are so proud of you!
